Top 10 ways to achieve hormonal balance and promote weight loss include:

  • Minimize all insulin stimulating foods. These include white sugar, excess alcohol and all processed flours.
  • Pick glucagon stimulating foods at every meal. Glucagon stimulating foods are proteins such as chicken, fish, turkey, lean red beef, eggs, hemp, protein powder (pea, rice etc), for Vegans and Vegetarians Tofu, Tempeh, Quorn, Egg whites, mushrooms.
  • Support your hormonal health with essential fatty acids. Cold water fish such as salmon, nuts and seeds like pumpkin seed, brazil nuts, almonds, walnuts are among my favorites
  • Stay hydrated. Drinking minimum 2 liters of water per day is critical for energy, vitality and overall health. Just make it a habit.
  • Drink green tea. In addition to boosting metabolism, green tea produces an amino acid called L-theanine which tends to have a calming effect I usually advice this as a supplement form before bed as well for clients who live in high stress environment such as home or work.
  • Exercise, there is no way around it. Exercise is by far one of the most effective ways to lower cortisol response.
  • Sleep well. A good night’s sleep can do wonders for proper cortisol production and fat loss. In fact, research has shown poor sleep quality to be associated with an increase in cravings and hunger, thereby leading to weight gain. look at my previous post about hormones called GHERLIN and LIPTIN.
  • Hug someone you love. Believe it or not we, as human beings love affection and that does help in a lot of ways one is lowering your cortisol response. Whether it is your child, hubby, friend or parent or pets.
  • Meditate, pray or journal. Which ever you are open to practice BUT chose one ! I assure you, it works.
  • Take time for you. First make a list of 5 things that makes you happy that doesn’t require great effort or relying on anyone else, it’s you for you! then whatever it is that you love to do could be something as simple as a walk, reading a book, listening to music, play video games, practicing deep breathing whatever makes you instantly happy and switched off – try to take time 15-30 minutes per day for yourself.
